In order to truly appreciate our differences, we must first have an awareness of our personal culture. We often think of a group of people when we consider culture; however, every individual has his or her own unique cultural perspective. You probably already have an awareness of the ways your age, gender, race, ethnic background and socio-economic status have influenced your experience in the world; however, below we have a list of questions, which we hope will help you take you take an even deeper look at your personal culture and the cultures of others.

Use these questions anytime you notice someone is different than you and wish to get a better understanding of why these differences exist.
Dr. Cole is Licensed Psychologist and the Co-Founder and Executive Guide for Family Guiding. She has worked with individuals and families who struggle with emotional and behavioral problems for the past ten years in a residential treatment center, hospital, outpatient clinic, and at a detention center. She is passionate about working in collaboration with the community members of Brooklyn, NY to provide opportunities for adolescent girls in the juvenile justice system. As the founder and Executive Director of the Create A Path program, Dr. Cole has developed an evidenced-based program model that addresses all of the relevant recommendations made by the Task Force on Transforming Juvenile Justice and by the Vera Institute of Justice.
